For day 3 in Madeira, we didn’t have much planned other than be with the boyfriends family in the evening in Porto da Cruz so before then we decided to go around Caniço de baixo.
Caniço is a very touristic spot, where a lot of tourist stay in hotel right by the beach and its the town that has everything from restaurant, pharmacies, supermarket, beach, bars in walking distances. A lot of tourist pick Caniço as its more relaxed and not as crazy as Funchal can get.
We took my mum and brother to a hidden section where there is a paid swimming pool area and a quiet bar that do live lounge in the evenings and great views. Also get to see colourful hotels brightening Caniço.
From Caniço we headed to Santa Cruz to see family as well as eating some nice Venezuelan food at family restaurant in the villa of Santa Cruz called Arepazo. We walked around the beach enjoying the planes fly by.
Our next stop was Portela viewpoint, located between Porto da Cruz and Machico, it provides beautiful landscapes of Madeira, where you will find magnificent scenery over Porto da Cruz and Penha d’Águia which despite being located on the North Coast of the island, belong to the Machico municipality. You can also see the Cortado area in Santana.
Portela is also known for a lot of running/marathons that happened around madeira, as you can see from the map you have 3 routes you can do, it’s a spot for training.
Our day ended with family, having a BBQ in Porto da Cruz. If you want to check out other Madeira posts you can here.
